Welcome to the KickStart blog

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

Greetings. My name is Terry Grim, and I’m a partner at KickStart Fitness. Our specialty is designing, assembling, installing and maintaining youth fitness, activity, and wellness centers. Our clients are mostly professionals active in the field of youth health and wellness: PE teachers and administrators, fitness center and gym owners, community centers, etc.

We’re a for-profit company, but we work in an area that has a lot of relevance to public health. Over the past few years, the topic of children’s health has become a national (and international) issue, particularly in the areas of childhood obesity, sedentary lifestyles and habits, poor nutrition, etc. Correspondingly, a great deal of attention is now turning to the rectification of these problems. To be honest, it’s the reason we’re in business!

Nevertheless, we all share the opinion that it’s possible to do good business while doing good. That is one of the reasons I decided to start this Blog. In our little niche of the youth fitness world, we come across people every day who are simply looking for a way to get started, or a little practical advice or knowledge on how to go about doing something related to the implementation of a youth fitness space; what kind of equipment is out there? How is it delivered and assembled? How much floor space do I need? Does my climbing wall need harnesses and belays? What about warranties? What kind of programming should I plan on? You get the picture.

So, that’s the kind of thing we’ll be discussing on this Blog - nuts and bolts stuff with some opinion thrown in. I’ll be updating as frequently as I can, and posing pictures of our various projects. For now, I’m allowing everyone to comment without the hassle of enrolling - I hope to keep it that way unless I start to have spam problems. I don’t have anyone on my blogroll yet - let me know if you’re interested!

Check back here soon, I’m already working on my next post: youth weight training - is it okay, what are the medically-accepted guidelines, and how do I set up a resistance circuit for my own space?
